Overview
A global healthcare provider needed to increase operational output by installing a new, high-precision reagent filling line. The primary challenge was integrating this equipment within the existing Environmental Control Area (ECA) without compromising current cleanroom standards or regulatory compliance.
Technical mastery
To meet the client’s growing production needs, we designed and installed a new turnkey ECA specifically for technical production. This new facility was built to ISO Class 8 cleanroom standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements for cleanliness and air quality. The project involved a significant reconfiguration of existing space on the facility's ground floor. An outdated laboratory, formerly housing Quality Control (QC) instrumentation, was stripped out and transformed into an open-plan, high-performance cleanroom.
-
ISO Class 8 compliance: The cleanroom conforms to ISO 14644-1 standards for particulate control, suitable for handling sensitive operations.
-
HVAC upgrade: A major component of the project was the overhaul of the HVAC system. We installed a new dedicated air handling unit (AHU), a humidifier, and fan filter units to ensure controlled airflow.
-
Safety enhancements: Given that the laboratory operations within the cleanroom involve hazardous chemicals, we installed an ATEX-rated local exhaust ventilation (LEV) extract system. This ensures that any chemical vapours are safely managed, protecting both personnel and sensitive production processes.
-
Optimised layout: The cleanroom design maximised the available space, creating an efficient workflow while allowing room for future upgrades as production demands evolve.
Benefits
At every project stage, we worked closely with the client to fully understand their needs. By fostering a strong partnership, we deliver a tailored, high-quality cleanroom that supports their long-term production goals.
Key results:
-
Increased cleanroom capacity: The project almost doubled the cleanroom space at the facility by creating two distinct ECAs for technical production and for technical production and dispensing. This expansion provides the flexibility needed to scale up production and meet future growth demands.
-
Operational separation: The new cleanroom allows the client to separate technical production from dispensing operations, reducing the risk of cross-contamination and ensuring a more efficient workflow.
-
Enhanced production capabilities: With the additional cleanroom space and improved operational layout, the client can handle higher production volumes, improving efficiency and enabling the company to better respond to market demands.
-
Improved safety and compliance: The upgraded HVAC system and ATEX-rated ventilation ensure that the new facility meets the highest safety and regulatory standards, providing a secure environment for handling sensitive and hazardous materials.
