Overview
Our client is a global leader in medical technologies, specialising in advanced wound and infusion care. Their manufacturing facility produces class III medical devices, requiring absolute adherence to cGMP and MHRA standards. To support growth, the client needed to increase capacity for their primary product and expand storage for hazardous materials. This mission-critical expansion demanded a detailed technical design for two operational suites and supporting utilities, all integrated with zero unplanned disruption to ongoing, high-stakes manufacturing operations.
Technical mastery
We delivered a comprehensive, single-source environment engineered for high-stakes precision and safety within a regulated environment:
- Specialised environmental control: We installed independent Grade D HVAC systems for each suite, featuring dedicated air handling units and extract fans. This ensures independent operation and a minimum of 20 air changes per hour to maintain air quality.
- Pressure & containment engineering: Room pressures were meticulously designed to meet cGMP and solvent vapour containment standards. We implemented automated pressure differential monitoring with delay-timed alarms to ensure constant compliance.
- Advanced thermal regulation: To guarantee product stability and process consistency, we integrated climate control systems that maintain a stable environment of 21±3°C.
- Hazardous material management: Our team designed and installed robust distribution systems capable of safely handling silver nitrate, brine, BeCl, tween, and industrial denatured alcohol (IDA).
- Explosion protection & compliance: Due to the high flammability of IDA, we have implemented strict safety measures in compliance with DSEAR and ATEX 137 regulations. These measures are designed to reduce the risks of fire and explosion through specialised engineering techniques.
- Technical space ventilation: We utilised natural ventilation for technical support areas, balancing energy efficiency with safety requirements.
